BUSHNELL  EVENT  BRINGS RE-ENACTORS
TOGETHER- SEASON OPENS FOR 2008

Heat Stroke is a life threatening illness with a high
death rate.  It occurs when the body has depleted
its supply of water and salt, and the victim's body
temperature rises to deadly levels.  A heat stroke
victim may first suffer from heat cramps and/or
heat exhaustion before progression into heat
stroke, but this is not always the case.  It should
be noted that heat stroke is sometimes mistaken
for cardiac arrest (heart attack).  It is, therefore,
very important to recognize the signs & symptoms
of heat stroke- and check for them anytime  a
re-enactor collapses while in a hot environment.

The early signs of heat stroke include a high body
temperature (103F), usually an absense of sweat,
hot red or flushed dry skin, rapid pulse, difficulty
breathing, and constricted pupils.  Dizziness,
headache, nausea, vomiting, severe confusion,
bizarre behavior, and high blood pressure may also
be present.  Advance symptoms may include
siezure, convulsionscollapse, loss of conciousness,
and temperature 108F+.

      TREATMENT
It is vital to lower the body temperature, and
seconds count.
 COOL THEM DOWN!  Pour
water on them, fan them, apply cold packs.  Call
911 and evacuate  ASAP.

Rangers Preparing to Move Out on Anzio,
Confident of Win over Axis Forces
I CARE ABOUT
YOUR WOOL
AUTHENTICITY ALCOVE
           by T-4 Barry Burnett

Sometimes, with a little luck and a considerable fortune,
you can find original wool uniforms in very good
shape. In case you are unaware, a word to the wise.
Collectors are cautioned to check for loose tobacco in
the pockets of wool uniforms. The decaying tobacco
can cause damage. The tobacco can also attract other
critters. One other tactic I practice is to put any wool
item in a freezer for 24 hours. Doing so kills hibernating
larvae. Dry clean professionally. If you plan to cover
the coat while in storage, authorities at the Smithsonian
Institute  recommend leaving the bottom of the cover
open, permitting air to circulate. Then  store the item(s)
with others in a cedar lined wardrobe or chest.
CAMDEN, South Carolina -The 2nd
Rangers of Company F have been
reassigned to the 1st Ranger Battalion and
ordered to report for duty against the Axis
powers, who are mustering for "Sons of
Valor II- Breakout from Anzio", September
28th.

"We are absolutely confident we are on a
winning team," states TSgt  Sam Howell.
"We may be up against the odds, but the
enemy will (by all means) have their hands
full."

It is expected the Rangers will arrive in the
afternoon on Friday, and will immediately
set up a small patrol as the company digs
in.  General orders will be in effect until
Sunday, 30 September.

Major Scott Campbell states, "We are the
allied command unit, which is an honor to
everyone here. Plan on it. The last week of
September. Again, I look forward to a
great season and with the great members
we have, we will continue to 'Lead the
Way', on and off the field."

BUSHNELL, FLORIDA - Members of the Military Vehicle
Preservation Association (MVPA),  living historians, and re-enactors
gathered at Dade Battlefield State Park on August 12th for the WWII
Appreciation Day.  This was the 1st of this event ran  by the Florida
State Park Service, and was so successful the park has already
started plans for next year.

Units participating at the event included both Axis and Allied
impressions.  Setting up displays early in the morning, these units
worked together in educating the public through participation,
instruction , and speeches on the lives of the men and women of the
second World War.

Many members of the WWII Historical Association of Florida were
present as well, and a well deserved optimistic review of the 2008
season was given by Combat Command A's commanding officer,
Major Scott Campbell.

"I had a great time," states Lt Art Durshimer, "and it was worth the
drive to see everyone, especially the veterans.  It was impressive."
Sgt Jeanne Chumbley and 2nd Lt Pam Ottosen have been officially
promoted to their new ranks in the Office of Strategic Services.
Both went through the same rigorous promotion procedure as
required within the 2nd Rangers, which is a  written and oral test of
OSS history, field marching, manual of Arms demonstration, and
overall proficiency. They both did a great job and are worthy to be
among our ranks. Congratulations to  both in a job well done.
